Attorney Randall Spivey Speaks at ABATE Southwest Florida March Meeting
April 4, 2018 | Category: Firm News, Motorcycle Accidents | ShareEvery day, Florida motorcyclists face the potential of being involved in accidents. On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, Fort Myers Motorcycle Accident Attorney, Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A. attended the ABATE Southwest Chapter meeting held at the Shell Factory in North Fort Myers to discuss and answer questions about some very important issues related to motorcycle accidents, important laws affecting motorcyclists and insurance issues. Mr. Spivey is a life member of ABATE.
With Florida leading the nation in motorcycle fatalities, Mr. Spivey discussed the common types of motorcycle crashes and the injuries resulting from them. “Head injuries are the most common cause of death and disability in motorcycle crashes. These injuries include skull fractures, concussions, traumatic brain injury and broken teeth.” The most common types of motorcycle accidents that Mr. Spivey handles involve a careless driver turning left in front of an oncoming motorcycle. If drivers would just take more time to look, or simply wait to get a better view, these accidents can be avoided. Drivers get in a hurry and forget a very important rule, “Look Twice and Save a Life.”
With so many motorcycle crashes, it is important for bikers to know about Florida’s laws which affect them and how to protect themselves from financial liability by having the right insurance coverage. “It is strongly recommended that you check your motorcycle and automobile insurance policies right away to make sure both policies have uninsured motorist coverage of at least $300,000 per accident. Make sure the coverage is ‘stacking.’ Never allow the insurance company to give you ‘non-stacking’ uninsured motorist coverage. An umbrella policy is also a good idea. A good amount for an umbrella policy is $1,000,000, but make sure it also provides uninsured motorist coverage in the same amount. Absolutely never reject uninsured motorist coverage under your car or motorcycle policies. Check your policies right away. Do not make the mistake that some people do by assuming they have ‘full coverage.’ Since 14 percent of all traffic fatalities are motorcycle crashes, staying informed and seeking the right legal advice is important. Our experienced motorcycle legal team are available 24/7 should we be needed,” said Mr. Spivey.
