Avoid Oktoberfest DUI Accidents
October 18, 2021 | Category: DUI Accidents | ShareOktoberfest is a lively German celebration dating back to October 1810 with the marriage of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Over 70 years later in 1887, Oktoberfest was celebrated in agricultural fairs and beer pubs. The celebration became popular when Munich, Germany became the home of Oktoberfest and made the celebration what we know it to be today.
Oktoberfest in Southwest Florida is a time for celebration. A time to have fun, eat German-style specialties like bratwurst, bauernwurst, sauerkraut, and German potato salad, listen to German bands, and sample German beer. It is also time when DUI accidents occur because of over-imbibing revelers.
The risk of over-consumption of alcohol during Oktoberfest celebrations is great. Both pedestrians and drivers should be on heightened vigilance for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) says, “Driving and alcohol don’t mix. Over 500,000 people are injured in alcohol-related crashes every year – with over 12,000 resulting in death. AAA urges all motorists not to drink and drive. One drink can be too many.”
