Bicycle riders often suffer catastrophic injuries and even tragically may die when they are involved in accidents with other vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that 857 bicyclists were tragically killed in U.S. traffic crashes in 2018.

In December 2020, a 72-year-old Canadian bicyclist tragically died after being hit by a vehicle that was driving south in the outside lane on Three Oaks Parkway at 6:15 a.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) news release.
