Buyer Beware! Used Cars May Have Recalls

March 18, 2013 | Category: Unsafe Vehicles | Share

In 2012 more than 2 million used cars were under recall but not fixed.  These recalls could cause dangerous accidents including fires, loss of control and even rollovers.  Dealerships selling or leasing new cars are required by law to fix recalls before selling the cars.  However, dealerships selling used cars are not.  Used car buyers are not protected by law from defective, unsafe recalled cars which are sold at dealerships. Auto dealerships also are not required by law to report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration fatal or injury crashes which involve recalled vehicles they sell.

Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety in their February 4, 2013 alert Unsafe, Recalled Used Cars for Sale on Dealer Lots state,  "Used car dealers across the nation persist in foisting off unsafe, recalled vehicles on an unsuspecting public."

Investigative reporter, Jeff Rossen on the Today Show February 7, 2013, reported on hidden cameras which his team used in St. Louis, MO which revealed dozens of dealers selling popular models with recalls.  Today News

CarfaxFlorida Unsafe Vehicles Lawyer, Randall Spivey Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A. recommends, "Used car buyers be aware of what they are buying.  Find the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) -  a 17 digit code in the bottom left corner (driver's side) of the windshield.  Go to  Carfax Vehicle History Reports and learn the vehicles history. I have seen first-hand the devastation caused by defective vehicles and urge used car buyers to be safety-conscious when purchasing their used vehicles."
