Carnival Executives Ignored COVID-19 Pandemic
April 23, 2020 | Category: Personal Injury | ShareThe Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says the Carnival Cruise Line helped fuel the COVID-19 crisis in the United States. More than 1,500 people on Carnival’s cruise ships were diagnosed with COVID-19 and at least 39 people died.
Bloomberg Business Week (BBW) reported on April 17, 2020 that Carnival executives continued to keep their cruise ships partying after knowing they had a COVID-19 problem. The report said, “Carnival’s ships have become a floating testament to the viciousness of the new coronavirus and raised questions about corporate negligence and fleet safety.”
BBW says Carnival’s future is not clear. Australian authorities launched a criminal probe into whether the company’s Princess Cruises subsidiary misled authorities about an outbreak aboard a ship docked in Sydney, and its Costa Cruises subsidiary is facing multiple passenger lawsuits regarding its COVID-19 response.
Evidence of Carnival’s inconsistencies includes a Hong Kong health department press release announcing the COVID-19 epidemic on February 1 that Carnival presumably confirmed receiving.
“COVID-19 has taken the lives of over 45,000 people in the United States. Cruise lines have a duty to protect their passengers and crew while they are on their ships. Ignoring the signs of COVID-19 is negligent,” said Florida Personal Injury Lawyer Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.
