The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports that a total of 3,660 people died in U.S. large truck crashes in 2014 (latest available figures). 16 percent of these deaths were truck occupants and 68 percent were occupants of other passenger vehicles.

Textalyzer Bill Under Consideration in New York | SLF

A new word is being coined. The word is “textalyzer.” ABC News reported that in New York there is a proposed state law that would allow police to use a device called a “textalyzer” to reveal whether a driver was texting at the time of a crash. Should the bill become law in New York, the police responding to a crash would have the power to ask the drivers to turn over their cell phones.

Reducing the Risks of Senior Driving Accidents and Injuries

Even though older drivers most often are the safest drivers because they are more likely to wear seatbelts and less likely to speed or drink and drive, they are more likely, if involved in an accident, to suffer serious injuries and be killed. By the time a senior driver reaches his or her 70s, according to the Minnesota Times Standard, the risk typically starts to increase because of a decline in reflexes, alertness and other factors.
