David Vanaman Shows Positive Signs as Florida Department of Transportation to Begin Traffic Study at Metro Parkway Extension and Briarcliff Road
November 5, 2012 | Category: Automobile Accidents | Share
October 22, 2012 David Vanaman became the victim of a tragic accident at the dangerous intersection of Metro Parkway Extension and Briarcliff Road. The Metro Parkway Extension had been open less than 24 hours when the accident occurred as the result of the lack of traffic signals. Briarcliff Road crosses 6 lanes of the Metro Parkway Extension, making it very difficult to navigate.
The Vanaman attorney, Randall Spivey, Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A. issued the following statement on November 1, 2012:
David Vanaman, Victim of First Crash at Metro Parkway Extension and Briarcliff Road Shows Positive Signs as FDOT Plans to Start Traffic Studies
David Vanaman, the victim of the first crash which took place at the intersection of the newly opened Metro Parkway Extension and Briarcliff Road, Ft. Myers, showed encouraging signs late last night. Christine, Mr. Vanaman's wife, updated the family's Attorney Randall Spivey, Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A., Fort Myers, that her husband opened his right eye and gave a thumbs up to his brother, Tim Vanaman. Christine also reports that David today gave the nurse a slow and unsteady thumbs up and a peace sign in response to her questions. Mr. Vanaman's doctors consider these as promising signs for him even though he has a long road to recovery with pneumonia, a stomach ulcer and the need for facial and shoulder reconstruction surgeries. The family is thrilled, and thanks the community for its prayers.
Attorney Spivey sent notice on October 26, 2012 to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) that Mr. Vanaman's accident appears to be the result of "…failure to implement and install permanent and/or temporary traffic light signalization" at this extremely dangerous intersection where Briarcliff Road crosses six lanes of the Metro Parkway Extension. Briarcliff Road is the only street along the Metro Parkway Extension which intersects.
On behalf of the Vanaman family, Attorney Spivey requested that immediate action be taken to approve and install traffic signals at the intersection of the Metro Parkway Extension and Briarcliff Road.
Tanya King, Traffic Studies Analysis Specialist at FDOT, confirmed to us today by telephone that the FDOT traffic study would begin next week, the week of November 5th. This is over a month ahead of the original scheduled start date in December.
The family's attorney is extremely pleased that Mr. Vanaman has shown some progress and encouraged that the FDOT is taking the first steps toward signalization following his request and those of others in the community to take action.
