FDOT Data 2021-2022 - Collier County Has Deadliest Roads

Already in 2023, Collier County has had numerous accidents, with many involving tragic deaths. For example, there were two fatal accidents in just 10 days.
- On May 27, the FHP reported two people tragically died in an overnight wrong-way crash on State Road 29.
- On June 6, the FHP responded to a deadly crash on Immokalee Road off Rock Road, near North Naples, that shut down the westbound lanes of Immokalee Road.
What are the most dangerous Collier County roads?
The Naples Daily News reviewed data from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to determine which intersections and stretches of Collier County highway had the highest number of fatal crashes from 2018 through June 2022. Fatal crashes jumped nearly 13 percent. I-75 in Collier County was the deadliest road, accounting for more than 20 percent of fatal crashes.
According to FDOT statistics, here are the most lethal intersections and highway interchanges in Collier County:
- I-75 and Pine Ridge Road – There were 6 crashes near the interchange of I-75 at Pine Ridge Road that resulted in seven tragic deaths. Two of these crashes were at on and off ramps.
- I-75 and Immokalee Road – FDOT data showed that six people tragically died at the I-75 and Immokalee Road interchange. Half of these accidents were caused by distracted driving.
- S. 41 and County Road 864 – This four-way intersection in East Naples was the scene of four fatal crashes. Three of the four involved the portion of the intersection where seven-lane County Road 864 meets nine-lane U.S. 41. One of the crashes involved a pedestrian fatally.
- Immokalee Road and Camp Keais Road – This is a rural intersection just outside of Immokalee. Four crashes tragically killed seven people.
- State Road 82 and State Road 29 – Four fatal crashes near the intersection of State Road 82 and State Road 29 occurred from 2018 through 2020.

Many of the accidents cited above were caused by distracted driving, according to police reports. FDOT statistics show drivers involved in 2020 accidents were distracted by:
