Cape Coral, FL (February 11, 2020) Late Tuesday night, Robert Alan Zarnik tragically died after crashing his Ford Mustang into a Cape Coral canal.

Mr. Zarnik was driving east on El Dorado Parkway around 10:15 p.m. He was going about 50 mph when he approached the end of a dead-end road. Cape Coral police say his Mustang continued going past the road, struck a hill and was launched into the air, traveling about 75 feet in the air before landing in the canal.

A Cape Coral Fire Department diver removed Mr. Zarnik after he was submerged for several minutes. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continued at the scene until around 3:45 a.m. At the present time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
