Estero, FL (January 29, 2020) Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Trooper Kenneth Watson reported a call came in at 8:44 p.m. NBC2's Chief Meteorologist Allyson Rae said there was a light drizzle at the time.

FHP reported a sedan was driving at 20 to 30 miles per hour in the middle lane of I-75 at Corkscrew Road with its hazard lights on.  Trooper Watson said a van driving the speed limit (70 miles per hour) slammed into the back of the sedan, and both vehicles ricocheted off two other vehicles.

There were several children in the van, one of whom was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A victim in another vehicle was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert but is expected to recover.

All northbound lanes of I-75 were closed for hours.
