Cape Coral, FL (April 15, 2020) Two people tragically died in a crash off Burnt Store Road in Cape Coral on Wednesday morning around 8:40 a.m.

Cape Coral police reported that Joseph E. Voll and Sue Ellen Voll of Punta Gorda tragically died after their Mazda CX5 SUV was hit by a dump truck that was trying to avoid a collision with another truck on Burnt Store Road.

The dump truck driver, Christopher Abdill of Fort Myers was driving north on Burnt Store Road and tried to stop before colliding with another dump truck in front of him. Reports say when he did so, he steered to the left and crossed into the southbound lanes. Mr. Abdil’s dump truck then hit the Mazda. Mr. Abdill was not injured in the crash, according to officers.

The Cape Coral police said alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.

The Cape Coral Police Department is asking the public to contact them at 239.574.3223 if anyone witnessed the crash. The department is also accepting anonymous tips here.
