Keep the Holidays Happy – Avoid DUI

December 4, 2013 | Category: DUI Accidents | Share

“The holiday season is approaching, and everyone is busy shopping, decorating, and attending and hosting holiday parties.  MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) and AAA (American Automobile Association) are speaking out about keeping the holidays safe,” said Hurt By Drunk Driver Attorney, Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.

MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) has called for law enforcement and states to crack down on holiday drinking during this holiday season.  In the past year there has been a 4.6 percent increase in traffic fatalities involving drunk driving. In an article in the Miami Herald November 14, 2013, MADD President Jan Withers stated, “This news is frustrating because we know what works, and we know how to stop these senseless tragedies.”

Keep the Holidays Happy - Avoid DUI - Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.9,878 Americans died in 2012 according to an article in AAA Going Places November/December 2013 “Safety Matters”.  AAA, to combat the increase in year-end holiday DUI crashes, has joined with Bud Light since 1998 in a program called AAA Tow to Go – a program to “discourage intoxicated driving”.  The program is available in Florida during Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day.  AAA also advocates the requirement of ignition interlock devices (car-installed breath analyzers) for all convicted offenders, and offers year-round high school education programs on the dangers of underage drinking.

“Avoiding tragic vehicle crashes as a result of driving while intoxicated starts with the alcoholic beverage consumer, the host/hostess, and restaurants and bars.  We all can make a difference.  MADD in its Safe Party Guide covers the following:

      •   What Every Host Needs To Know.
      •   Office Parties.
      •   Planning A Party.
      •   During The Party.

Let us join together to Keep the Holidays Happy by Avoiding DUIs,” said Attorney Spivey.
