May is National Youth Traffic Safety Month

May 1, 2013 | Category: Automobile Accidents | Share

A new Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Liberty Mutual  survey of 1,708 11th and 12th graders reported that nearly a quarter of teens in the U.S. (23%), admit to driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana or prescription drugs used illegally at some point.  Teens, according to the survey, don't believe their behavior causes them any danger; in fact, 20% of those surveyed believed their driving performance improved when using alcohol or drugs.

National Youth Traffic Safety Month"These are disturbing survey results. Although it is important to do everything we can to keep our driving teens safe and help them avoid vehicle accidents every month of the year, May is National Youth Traffic Safety Month®.   This month the United States joins in the global initiative to reduce youth traffic deaths and injuries." said Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.

National Organizations for Youth Safety

National Youth Traffic Safety Month® is being launched in Washington, D.C. by the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS), a coalition of business/industry partners, nearly 70 national non-profit organizations, and federal government agencies, all addressing the health and safety of youth in the United States.  According to NOYS, they are the longest operating coalition of youth-led and youth-serving organizations in America.  NOYS-trained youth leaders take their expertise back to their communities to energize and mobilize their peers to impact their schools and communities.

"For more information on the National Youth Traffic Safety Month® activities and resources on how to become involved go to the http://www.noys.org website." recommends Attorney Spivey.
