Motorcycle Safety - Protective Gear and Safety Awareness
May 13, 2013 | Category: Bike Accidents | Share"Rider training is important in keeping motorcyclists safe on the roads. Protective equipment and safety awareness is also important," says Florida Motorcycle Accident Injury Lawyer, Randall Spivey, Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.
Available protective equipment has changed over the years. For personal protection there are helmets made of Kevlar or a plastic carbon fiber which can resist puncture and impact. They are designed to provide full-face protection and have visors which "flip-up". Jackets and race suits have also improved using ballistic nylon or Kevlar. Some race suits even have airbag systems built in.
In addition to these protective features, look for jackets and race suits which increase visibility by having reflective strips.
Having the right "riding" apparel and riding a bike with the right safety equipment are both steps in preventing motorcycle crash injuries.
Cars and trucks come with standard safety equipment. Motorcycles don't. Bikers should be proactive in selecting safety equipment. When doing so, it's important to check the equipment and/or apparel reviews before purchasing. Ridermagazine.com is one resource bikers may access.
Being informed of motorcycle recalls may reduce the risk of motorcycle accidents and injuries. Since January 2013 there have been four recalls of Triumph and Victory motorcycles for lighting and equipment problems. Motorcyclistonline.com provides recalls by year and make.
