- Prevent inside falls with handrails on both sides of stairs, keeping stairways uncluttered and well lit. Provide hand rails and non-slip mats in showers and tape down area rugs. Put child safety gates at the top and bottom of stairways. Protect children from falling out windows.
- Prevent outside falls by putting protective covering under playground equipment. Keep sidewalks and walkways clear and fix chipped or broken pavement and stairs. Have bright lights on walkways and front and back entrances. Make sure ladders are stored in safe places.
- Keep medications out of the reach of children.
- Secure pool areas so children do not inadvertently drown.
- Provide age-appropriate toys.
- Be aware of defective and recalled products by checking Recalls.gov
