Norwegian Cruise Line Being Investigated by Florida Attorney General
April 28, 2020 | Category: Boating Accidents | ShareOn March 24, 2020, NBC News reported that Florida’s attorney general, Ashley Moody, was investigating reports into allegations that Norwegian Cruise Line downplayed the severity of COVID-19 when its sales team responded to customer concerns about the safety of cruise packages.
A whistleblower leaked emails that allegedly showed Norwegian Cruise Line managers encouraged employees to tell concerned customers things like, “the only thing you need to worry about for your cruise is do you have enough sunscreen” and “the coronavirus can only survive in cold temperatures, so the Caribbean is a fantastic choice for your next cruise.”
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other health organizations said the statements that were shared with potential customers are false. “The virus that causes COVID-19 seems to be spreading easily and sustainably in the community,” the CDC said on its website.
“Misleading information spread by cruise line personnel can cause the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and is irresponsible. Cruise lines have a duty to protect their passengers and crew and must always tell them of any pandemic danger as soon as they are informed. Should they fail to do so, they are negligent,” said Florida Personal Injury Lawyer Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.
