Shopping for Toys? Read This First. Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.At this time of year, most people have shopping lists, and high on these lists are toys.  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that in 2011 at least 13 children under the age of 15 died in toy-related incidents, and an estimated 262,300 toy-related injuries were treated in U. S. emergency rooms during the same year.

From August 29 - November 13, 2013 alone there have been at least six toy recalls. Here are some of them:

  • November 13, 2013 -  Ride-On Wagon Toys - Due to fall hazard. The removable blue seat backs on the two-seat Whisper Ride Touring Wagon can detach, and children have fallen out of the wagons.
  • October 31, 2013 - Snoopy Sno-Cone Machines - A brass rivet can fall out of the sno-cone machine's ice-shaving cylinder and into a sno-cone.
  • October 23, 2013 - Infinitov  Softimals Toy - The plastic parts are too small and could cause choking and aspiration.
  • September 27, 2013 - Journey Girl Travel Trunks - The blue metal handle on the trunk used to carry dolls may be sharp.
  • September 23, 2013 - Be Amazing! Monster Science Growing Spiders - The marble-size, water absorbing spider eggs can be mistaken for candy and if ingested, could be life-threatening.
  • August 29, 2013 - Build-A-Bear recalls stuffed animal toy because of a potential chocking hazard.  The Monster movie character, Sulley's  eye may become detached.

It is very difficult for the shopper to know about all the toy recalls when they are in stores.  USA.gov has an application for Android and iPhones. gov.  Here's a link to the app download http://www.recalls.gov/

for the mobile application."Stay informed, stay safe, check product recalls", said USA.gov.

In addition to "staying informed" of toy recalls, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has
