SW Florida Head-On Motorcycle Accident Injuries & Compensation

September 10, 2021 | Category: Motorcycle Accidents | Share

The risks of being in a motorcycle accident in Florida are high in comparison with other states. Thousands of motorcyclists experience life-changing injuries and even death on our roads. There is little to nothing protecting a motorcyclist when he or she is in an accident with another vehicle. Head-on collisions are particularly dangerous.

SW Florida Head-On Motorcycle Accident - Spivey LawThe Florida Highway Patrol reported two motorcyclists tragically died after they were involved in a head-on collision with a pickup truck in Marion County, Florida in May 2021. The crash happened around 9:10 p.m. on State Road 200 near SW 147 Lane. The pickup was driven by a 56-year-old man who was traveling south and entered the northbound lane to pass other vehicles. FHP says the pickup was speeding when it struck the northbound motorcycle head-on.

Injuries sustained in head-on collisions with other vehicles are brutal. Motorcycle riders sustain the full force of the on-coming vehicle along with the forces of their speed. Some motorcyclists are thrown from their bikes when they collide and either hit the ground, another object, or the vehicle colliding with them. This can cause them to sustain significant trauma such as:

  • Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs)
  • Internal injuries to organs creating internal bleeding
  • Biker’s arm which is a crushing of the upper limbs causing pain and long-lasting damage
  • Spinal cord injuries can leave the victim with partial or total paralysis
  • Road rash from the friction of hitting the road can cause pain and disfigurement

After an accident, injured motorcyclists may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical care
  • Prescription medications
  • Other out-of-pocket costs
  • Loss of earnings
  • Loss of earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional trauma
  • Loss of companionship, consortium, and the enjoyment of life
