Stop the Texts. Stop the Wrecks, a website sponsored by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the Ad Council lists the following "Facts":

Fact #1 - Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. When travelling at 55 mph, that's enough time to cover the length of a football field. (Virginia Tech Transportation Institute)

Fact #2 - A texting driver is 23 times more likely to get into an accident than a non-texting driver. (Virginia Tech Transportation Institute)

Fact #3 - Of those killed in distracted-driving-related crashes, 995 involved reports of a cell phone as a distraction. (18% of fatalities in distracted-driving-related crashes NHTSA)

"Every day the news media in some part of the country reports on automobile accidents, truck accidents, and other vehicle crashes which were the result of drivers' texting and driving.  In an effort to stop the devastating consequences of texting and driving and, as a public service, we are listing some of the over 200 devices or apps the electronics industry trade associations estimate are currently on the market.  We are doing this as helpful information to our clients and friends, not as endorsements of any of these products or apps," says Fort Myers Accident Attorney, Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.
